Donut?

I feed birds.  I have a feeder in my office window.  Birds flock to it.  They eat a bizallion sunflower seeds each day... I get so many birds... (The most recent "new" bird is an Eastern Towhee).  But why should I have all the joy?!  Here's the story: on 28-Feb, my colleagues threw a birthday brunch for folks with recent birthdays.  I missed the event (took a sick day to take Kara's mom to foot surgery).  3-Mar was a snow day.  When I returned on 4-Mar, two Krispy Kreme donuts remain from the brunch.  Being a pig, I tried one... stalesville.   I took the second... fashioned a string from a plastic bag... and hung it in Ray's window (beside the giant pawn!!!!). Ray said one student plucked it on friday... aside from that, it is completely preserved and unmolested.  It hangs... oi... it hangs... poor neglected donut.  Stale as all get-out... sniff...  immortal?

This is how it started...

One electric guitar body - A "gift" from Andy's former housemate Philipe.  Philipe left it in Andy's Fairfax house when he moved out.  I, commuting from RVA to Fairfax, rented an empty room.  I found the guitar body and asked for it when Andy evacuated the house.  Philipe consented.  This was 10 years ago.  It belonged to a Squire Strat... or so I hear.

One electric guitar neck - Cheap.  Chinese.  The heel was too bid for the body's heel pocket.  Without consulting the interwebs, I took a chisel to the heel.

Help Wanted returns to the music scene. We six individuals collectively known as Help Wanted reformed for the East Luray Ave (Alexandria) Block Party on 29-Sep-2007. After 8 hours of practice we had about 90 minutes of music. We stumbled. We tripped. But, I think, we rocked. Crowd elements actually paused their eating and chatting to watch... most of these were under 3 (or their parents)... not certain what the lesson is. Set list:

  1. Unhappy Ending
  2. Churchill
  3. Smiling lke the Sun
  4. Still Breathin
  5. Pain (is a metaphor for Love)
  6. Mott Knows Me
  7. Hidin from Jehovah
  8. Morning
  9. Old DC
  10. Doggie Play Dead
  11. Fluid
  12. Puppy Dog
  13. Slipping Outward
  14. Wait and See
  15. Calm Me Down

Bass playing fingers needed much masking tape (yet they are blistered). Hurray Help Wanted.

I drove to work. I saw my favorite spot (in the shade of the big, leafy maple ... and it's a short walk to the door)... empty. I took it. Off to meetings... "Hey, Lee, wanna go to lunch at the D-Hall?" I could walk to the D-Hall... and keep my favorite spot. "Maybe... I want to see if Tim is available; if he's not I'll go." Tim is available... I drive to Pho. Pho is great... plus Tim is good company... and we walk to the Asian market for iced coffee in a can (I like it; Tim is less than impressed) and Pocky. Returning to work I get a decent spot near the building... I'm pretty happy. Later, a big storm rolls across campus... big leafy maple falls on the car in my favorite space (and 3 others). Lunch with Tim saves my car. Mixed feelings.

Downloaded Spoon's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga: a great album... iTunes says I've listened 5 times.

The blog itself is today's picture... Yesterday, this blog looked different. Today, it looks like hummus. I like hummus.

Also, my neighbors had a baby today. I look forward to meeting Childress.

Let's start with a picture from Andy's wedding. Here (looking uncharacteristically slick in suits we bought for the occasion), Scott and I play songs Andy wrote. For the wedding, we arranged the songs for mandolin and guitar. June 2005 Niagara Falls, NY
